Access Statement

The hotel is set in the heart of Medway and offers 97 bedrooms, with a mixture of singles, doubles, twins or family rooms. We aim to provide the highest standards of service to all our guests and encourage this through our culture and detailed staff training. We look forward to welcoming you to the King Charles Hotel and making your stay an enjoyable one. We offer the following services and facilities:

Pre-Arrival

  • For assistance prior to arrival please contact the reservations team on 01634 830 303.
  • The centre of the town is a 5 minute walk.
  • A bus service is available from outside the hotel to the town centre.
  • There is a company who specialises in an accessible taxi service, please see contact information below
  • Our brochures, menu and tariff are available in larger font on request.
  • You can contact the hotel by phone (switchboard accept typetalk calls), email, fax or in person. We are open 24 hours although response, e.g. to emails, may be reduced from 11pm to 7am.
  • We have a list of local equipment hirers and carers available on request.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • All guests should use the main entrance of the hotel located on Prince Arthur Road. There are no steps from this entrance.
  • The main entrance has an automatic door.
  • There is a turning area located directly outside the main entrance, this is for dropping off and picking up only, cars must not be left unattended.
  • The car park is on the same level as the entrance. There are 88 spaces, of which 2 are designated for disabled guests, located in close proximity to the doorway to the hotel. Reception is located on the ground floor.
  • If you need assistance with luggage, equipment or guidance, our reception staff are on duty 24 hours, but assistance may be limited between 11pm and 7am, and public holidays.

Main Entrance & Reception

  • There are no steps in the main lobby area.
  • The front desk is immediately in front of you when entering the main entrance.
  • There are a number of sitting areas in reception/lobby.
  • The reception desk is 110cm high. Registration can be completed whilst sitting in the reception area and we have clipboards available.
  • The registration card can be enlarged if required.
  • To the left of the main reception are the lifts to all floors.
  • The main restaurant is located to the left of reception, and the bar is located past the lift, towards the stairs and the ground floor bedrooms. There are no steps or slopes on route or at the entrance to the bar or restaurant.
  • The floor surface throughout the reception lobby is carpet and laminate.

Public Areas – General (Internal)

  • The public telephone is located to the right of reception.
  • All lifts have audible enunciation and tactile buttons at standard height.
  • There are refuge areas located on each floor these are located near the stair well on each floor.

Public Areas – WC

  • There is 1 set of public toilets in the reception area.
  • There is also a unisex accessible toilet.
  • This toilet provides:
    • Emergency Alarm pull cord.
    • 150 × 160 cm free space free of obstacles and doors.
    • 98 cm transfer space.
    • Floor is non slip ceramic tiles.
    • There are vertical rails either side of basins and toilets.
    • There is a horizontal rail on the side to transfer from the toilet.
    • There are lever taps on the sink.

Restaurant, Bar & Lounge

  • The nearest toilets to the bar and restaurants below are located in the reception area, details can be seen in the public areas WC section.
  • There is a bar situated on the ground floor near the stairs and the entrance to the ground floor rooms.
  • It has level entry and is open plan with carpet flooring.
  • The bar area is served from both sides and is situated in the middle of the bar area. It has tall chairs around it.
  • Table service is offered in the bar.
  • There is a selection of tables and chairs available.
  • LLighting is mainly natural day light whilst parts of the bar have low level lighting at night, there are areas which are well lit also.
  • There is a small restaurant attached to the bar, which is on the ground floor and reached through the bar area.
  • This restaurant is table service only, but your order must be placed at the bar stating your table number.
  • Menus are available in large print and staff will automatically take you through the menu and choices for the meal.
  • Lighting during the day is brighter than the evening meal lighting, which is low level.
  • We are able to cater for varying dietary needs, please advise staff on booking.
  • Our main restaurant and breakfast room is situated to the left of reception.
  • This restaurant is on the ground floor.
  • This restaurant is part buffet and part table service for breakfast and table service only for dinner.
  • Menus are available in large print and staff will automatically take you through the menu and choices for the meal.
  • Lighting during the day is brighter than the evening meal lighting, which is low level, with candles on the tables.
  • We are able to cater for varying dietary needs, please advise staff on booking.

Shop

  • The hotel does not provide a gift shop, however a small selection of gifts and toiletries are on display at reception.

Outdoor Facilities

  • There are no outdoor facilities.

Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment

  • We have 2 main conference rooms on the ground floor which are accessed via the corridor to the right of reception.
  • Both rooms are reached through double doors (each leaf is 95cm wide).
  • A Hearing loop is available in the Trafalgar Suite.
  • Lighting is even but can be dimmed by individual conference organisers.
  • Please notify conference organisers in advance if any additional services are required for conferences e.g. interpreters, palantypist, specific seating or staging, we do try to accommodate everyone’s needs where possible.
  • There are separate toilets in the Pembroke suite, but there is not a unisex accessible toilet with these toilets.

Bedrooms

  • We have one specially adapted accessible bedroom, with a fully adapted wet room bathroom. Please contact us directly should you wish to book this room.
  • Our accessible room has a wide entrance door with a low key reader, low level switches and light cords and sliding bathroom door.
  • Our bedrooms have the following facilities:
    • Twin or double bed combinations available.
    • Emergency procedures clearly written.
    • Television with Teletext and remote control.
    • Flooring in bedrooms is short pile carpet.
    • Room folders available in large print.
    • Lighting levels are controllable and reading lamps are provided.
    • Room service is between Midday and 11pm.
    • Bedding is all non-feather.
    • All room are non-smoking.
    • The furniture is flexible in the room and some items can be moved or removed on request.

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC (Ensuite or Shared)

  • We have one bedroom with a specially adapted bathroom.
  • This bathroom is a full wet room with a sliding door. Grab rails are located around shower and next to toilet and sink and a shower stool is located next to the shower. The bathroom has a low level toilet and sink. The bathroom floor is non slip lino.
  • Our bathrooms have the following facilities:
    • Flooring in bathroom is non slip lino.
    • All bathrooms have step in shower cubicles.

Self-Catering Kitchen

  • There are no-self catering rooms available

Grounds & Gardens

  • We have a small garden which can be reached via the corridor to the right of reception. There is a ramp to the decking area where there are chairs and tables. The flooring in the rest of the garden is paved.

Additional Information

  • If you require any assistance during your stay please contact reception. The Duty Manager can also be contacted via reception.
  • We have a set evacuation procedure. Our alarm sound is a loud siren.
  • All front house staff have regular training which includes disability awareness training.
  • All housekeeping staff have been trained and are aware of procedures to aid privacy in bedrooms.
  • There is good network coverage for mobile phones within the hotel and average coverage from hotel bedrooms. All networks work.
